Weekly Gold Technical Analysis - Sell signals across the board for US Share Market

Share markets have had to tolerate a volatile week, notably the US500 dropping 2% (4135 to 4050) to then rebounding almost instantly the following day back up to 4146. Earnings/reporting season is notoriously volatile, with most traders ‘putting down the pen’ during the month of May and revisiting strategy once the dust has settled.

Over the week we’ve also had the following news from the US.

Consumer confidence is down, with most US citizens expecting conditions to worsen in the next 6 months. Confidence is down 2.6% month to month.

GDP reporting completely missed estimates, landing at 1.1% growth. Previous GDP reporting was measured at 2.6% and estimates for Q1 were 2.0%. With reporting coming in well under predictions, it’s becoming apparent that the US economy is slowing down and fast.

An interesting report to note was Pending Home Sales. With mortgage rates now exceeding an average of 7% in the US, contract signings for the month of March plummeted -5.2% compared to February.

Pending Home Sales are now clearly in negative territory, as the real estate economy suffers a double blow of high-interest rates, and a lack of housing inventory to sell.

For those looking at our local markets, the ASX200 started to show the beginnings of a beautiful Head and Shoulders pattern through its weekly charts. If this pattern does come to fruition, it spells massive despair for the Australian share market. We’ve attached this chart here for you today.

Gold and Silver during the week have remained relatively steady by comparison. While Gold and Silver are a touch down from previous highs, they still look strong in the short to mid-term.
